This is Plukenetia huayllabambana, also known as Inca Peanut. This plant is one of the sacha inchi species that grows in the Peruvian Amazon, but they grow up above 1500 meters so they have the potential to be somewhat hardy. The seed from this plant is known as a superfood. The seeds are delicious and slightly oily as they are loaded with healthy unsaturated fats. Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9 oils are all contained in this one nut. They are also higher in protein than our normal peanuts. The common Sacha Inchi is called Plukenetia volubilis. Plukenetia huayllabambana has the edge when it comes to matching up the numbers for health benefits. USDA Hardiness Zones 9 to 11.
