The sap can be collected from this tree to make several different things including, sweet syrup, beer, wine, and soft drinks. You can eat the inner bark which is tender enough to chew in a survival situation. This tree is larval host to several different moths, including the Luna moth, Early Juniper Carpet Moth, and Columbia silkmoth.
