This is Ptelea trifoliata, also known as Hoptree, Stinking Ash, and Wafer Ash. In 19th century Texas, German immigrants used the seeds from this tree to brew beer. They had no hops so they used this trees seeds as a substitute and that is how this tree got its common name, hoptree.
