This is Pittosporum crassifolium, also known as stiffleaf cheesewood, and Karo. This New Zealand native can tolerate high winds and salt spray. This plant can be trained to grow as a shrub, or a tree that grows to a maximum height of 25 feet. The round hairy leaves are green with a grey smokey tint to them and the beautiful red flowers are attractive and fragrant. A blue dye can be made from the seeds. This drought tolerant plant likes to live in full sun or partial shade. USDA Hardiness Zones 8 to 11
