This is Ficus virens, also known as white fig, and pilkhan. A famous example of this tree is located near Cairns, at Atherton Tableland. It is called the Curtain Fig Tree. New leaves are a red pink and they are very beautiful. The leaves are boiled and eaten as a vegetable in Thai food and very often they are found in curries. The fruit can be eaten raw and is very tasty. This tree is often grown on coffee plantations as a shade tree. Latex can be produced from this tree. It is commonly used to waterproof boats. The wood is used to make tools and also used in lightweight construction. Ficus, in general, are a larval host plant for the Fig sphinx moth, and the Antillean Daggerwing butterfly.
