This is Berberis wilsonii. The little yellow flowers are very pretty and they are followed by dark blue edible fruit that is kind of lemony tasting, which makes it a great lemon juice substitute. Barberryaid, I guess I would call it. Growing up to 6 feet high at most, this shrub flowers in the Summer and likes to live in full sun. The leaves begin as a deep red and then slowly change into a lighter red, then pink, then finally to green. This produces mature leaves that are green with red tips. The birds like to eat the seeds on this plant and the deer do not like it. This is a great source of nectar and pollen for both honeybees and bumblebees. USDA Hardiness Zones 7 to 9
