This is Arisaema dracontium, also known as Green dragon, Dragon arum and Dragonroot. This plant is highly deer resistant and prefers moist rich soils. It does not do well in clay. The tiny flowers start out as light green or yellow and are cloaked in an envelope of its leaf green overcoat with its collar up. The flowers then turn into green berries which then turn into red berries once mature. North American Indians dries and aged the roots of this plant. Once the roots are dried or cooked they are considered edible but this plant contains calcium oxalate crystals which cause the unpleasant sensation of needles being stuck into your mouth and tongue. Did I mention that these are extremely deer resistant. I can understand why. Its compound leaf has between 7 to 15 sword shaped leaflets. USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 9
