This is Epilobium angustifolium, also known as, great willowherb, Rose bay, Fireweed, Willow Herb, Great willowherb, French willow, Almaruat, Kaporuski, Vrbolika, and rosebay willowherb. This plant grows to about 2 feet tall. The flowers, leaves, roots, and stems can be eaten cooked or raw, and the dried leaves are used to make tea. Fiber taken from the stem can be used to make cord. This is a larval host plant for the Yellow-banded sphinx, Aetole extraneella, and Proud sphinx moths, and the Bedstraw hawkmoth. USDA Hardiness Zones 3 to 7.
