This is Aquilegia canadensis, also known as Canadian Columbine, Wild Columbine, and Eastern Red Columbine. This is one of the most beautiful butterfly plants that you can find. It grows to about a foot and a half tall and likes to live in the full sun but can tolerate partial shade. I like this plant for its attractive drooping bell like flowers. Some Native Americans rubbed the crushed seeds from Aquilegia canadensis on the hands of men as a love charm. This is the larval host plant for the Columbine Duskywing and Spring Azure butterflies, and a nectar source for several other butterflies. It is worth mentioning that this is one of the best hummingbird plants in the world. USDA Hardiness Zones 3 to 8
