These seeds were collected from Araucaria araucana, also known as the monkey puzzle tree, monkey tail tree, piñonero, pewen and Chilean pine. These unique and interesting trees like to live in full sun where they can grow over 100 feet high. From late winter until early spring, the tree has brown and bronze blossoms and the branches look like they are covered with reptile scales. This is the national tree of Chile and it has become endangered recently. The seeds are edible and delicious with a flavor similar to pine nuts and a size like an almond. The wood from this tree is high quality and used in carpentry. When polished it takes on a beautiful shine. USDA Hardiness Zones 7 to 11.
