This is Sphaeralcea ambigua, also known as Globe Mallow, and Desert Mallow. This drought tolerant plant likes to live in full sun to light shade where it grows to about 3 feet tall. These blossoms go through several color changes. The blossoms have a wide spectrum ranging through Pink, Magenta, Purple, Red, Coral, Apricot, and Orange. These blossoms can be seen from late Spring through the middle of the Summer. Not only are the blossoms very colorful, but they also attract a wide variety of bees, birds, and butterflies. This is a larval host plant for the Small Checkered Skipper, Common Streaky Skipper, Northern White Skipper, White Checkered Skipper, West Coast Lady, Laviana White Skipper, Scarce Streaky Skipper, and the Common Checkered Skipper butterflies.
