Here are seeds from Cassia fistula, also known as canafistula, Purging Cassia, Golden Rain Tree, and Indian Laburnum. This slow growing tree needs to grow in full sun, and can get over 50 feet tall given enough time. The fragrant yellow flowers are brilliantly bright and attract a wide array of bees, butterflies, and birds. The tree likes live in full sun and blossoms from late Spring until the middle of the Summer. Cassia in general are larval hosts for the Cloudless Sulphur, Apricot Sulphur, Tailed Orange, Mottled Longtail, Boisduvals Yellow, Mercurial Skipper, Broken Silverdrop, Orange-barred Sulphur, Tailed Sulphur, Shy Yellow, and Sleepy Orange butterflies. It is also a larval host for the Dot-lined Angle Moth. Many parts of this plant are edible. The flowers can be fried and this is one of the more popular dished that can be made with this tree. People regularly eat the young leaves, flowers, flower buds, and pulp that is extracted from the pods. The wood is used in construction of many things and it is also used to make charcoal.
