This is Tithonia rotundifolia, also known as Mexican Sunflower. This plant likes to live in the full sun but can stay alive in partial shade. This flower does well as a dried or preserved flower and that is one reason that it is a very popular cut flower for an arrangement. The birds, bees, and butterflies absolutely love this bloom. Butterflies which have been documented gathering nectar from this plant are the Giant Swallowtail, Pipevine Swallowtail, and Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. This sunflower is grown as an annual all over, but it is a tender perennial in USDA Hardiness Zones 7 to 11.
